FAQs

How much will it cost and how long will it take?
The cost will vary depending on the amount of hours it will take and how large it will be. For example, a simple mural such as 'Vianca's Room' covering an image area of about 2 square metres, on a wall of about 3-4 metres across x 2-3 metres high, will be in the region of £250.00 to £350.00 (depending on its complexity,) and take up to a day, at most.
A backdrop such as 'School play collage backdrop' which covered approx. 15 metres across and approx. 6 metres high, requiring a lot of thought and design preparation in terms of composition, would cost in the region of £3000 and take between two to three weeks to finish. Obviously, each mural is unique, requiring different specifications by the client and will be quoted accordingly, so these are approximate guideline costs only.

What areas do you cover and does your quote include travel costs?
At the moment, local areas in Buckinghamshire where I live and surrounding areas. (There would be no travel costs for murals over £500, as I would include this in my price.) However, I do not mind travelling further a field, even abroad, but obviously travel costs, although kept to the minimum, would have to be extra. (However, I would absorb £250.00 travel costs of any commissions of over £1000 or more.)

What paint do you use and is it non-toxic?
Non-toxic matt emulsion and acrylics. They are washable and very durable.
Depending on where the mural is painted and if necessary, extra protection may be required and an acrylic based matt varnish can be used.

Can you paint on canvas for postage?
I could, but obviously postage and materials will be extra. Canvas paintings will be in flexible acrylics, not emulsion, so cracking is not usually a problem. Obviously, it would have to be discussed as to whether the project is viable, as size will be a limitation. (No more that 3 x 2 metres.) 25% deposit of the total cost would have to be sent in advance. Final payment would have to be cleared before the painting is sent, but regular up-dates on its progress can be sent via email photos. (Materials, postage and packing approx. £60.00.)

What preparation is required prior to painting?
Sketches of the mural design are prepared for your approval first. Usually, most surfaces are ready for painting, but some surface preparation may be needed such as light sanding. Once this is done, I will chalk up the outlines of the main areas of the design. Then I will be ready for painting!

What surfaces can you paint on?
Most surfaces are usually O.K. (Not Vinyl, though.)

Do you charge for consulting or estimates?

How do we pay?
I do not charge for consulting after which, if a commission is agreed, a simple agreement should be signed by you and me to protect both parties before any work is undertaken.
Payment can be made by cheque. A deposit of 10% is required to cover work on preliminary sketches, which is non-refundable and I will require a signed copy of my quote. Once approved, a further 20% of the total cost will be required before I start to paint the mural, to cover expenses of travel, initial time and materials. On completion, final payment of the balance will be required.

What is the duration and costs of the Creative Workshops?

I have delivered 2 or 3 day workshops in schools charging between £150 to £200 per day. This is only an approximation but my charges are negotiable depending on individual requirements.
